ABOUT
Ruina is a jewelry practice founded by Charles Sommer.
The work began as an extension of my drawing practice. I have always been drawn to images that exist as autonomous forms, shaped by restraint, control, and their relationship to the body. With Ruina, those images become objects meant to be worn, felt, kept close, and desired.
Each piece is designed and carved by hand in wax, then cast in sterling silver and refined through a meticulous finishing process. The forms reference architectural fragments, timeworn matter, and the quietly brutal forces that shape the world over time. Pressure. Friction. Erosion.
Ruina is drawn toward permanence. They are small artifacts made to live against the skin. Pieces that hold weight and intimacy. Objects that become personal through wear, kept as talismans and carried like memory.
ADVENTUS consists of one-of-a-kind works released in limited drops.
PONDUS, UNDA, and LIMBUS form the beginning of Ruina’s made-to-order collection, available in a wide range of sizes.
